The new epic is built on Cantos and Ketabs.
The Cantos can be short or long, on page or off, online or in space, and often cross platforms. The Ketabs are compendiums–again, in analog or physical form (in limited editions or regular editions), or in electronic format and/or in newly designed concoctions. The Canto and Ketabs together form the structural backbone of how the fragments and the sections of ÉPÏKÂNÕVÀ are organized and constructed. They live in/on a range of platforms, sites, publications and realms,
purposely exploring possibilities of manifestation and dissemination,
while connecting to other cantos, fragments and threads in a variety of
relational networks. Make no mistake though: ÉPÏKÂNÕVÀ is ONE work, one epic, distributed, fragmented, a theoretical machine and a grand story, unfolding in time and space.
Below: a number of cantos and brief descriptions…
Still a question–a grand question–is how all of this epic poem comes together. How do we gather the cantos and ketabs in one ‘volume’, in one container, when so many use the very parameters of the platforms on which they unfold… It’s a beautiful query, one without a definitive answer. It was devised and designed and conceived this way. My impression–and the correct assumption–is that a real full gathering is by definition impossible. A volume that contains full pieces along with descriptions of others, excerpts, fragments, etc. is probably the only possible path. That, itself, a paean to the nature of this epic of our times…
